Our Students

Riverside School students come from public and private schools from throughout the greater Richmond area.  All of our students are of average to above-average intelligence who have not been able to master language skills in a traditional school setting because of their unique learning needs.  At Riverside we build on our students strengths and prepare them to return to mainstream education ready to achieve their highest potential.  Most of our students do not stay at Riverside for more than five years, and in fact, many of our students are ready to return to their home school prepared to achieve their highest academic potential within a shorter time, while some do take a little longer.   Our students range in age from 5–13.  All of our intermediate school students go on to attend a public or private high school to continue their education and most of our graduates go on to attend college.

Our Families

Parents and families are a special part of the Riverside community, at home and at school.  Riverside parents commit to participating in our Parent Involvement Program in which they are asked to volunteer for ten hours per family during the school year.  These volunteer opportunities range from helping in the classroom to providing transportation to a class field trip. Parents also volunteer in our school library and art class as well as help plan and supervise school celebrations and special events. As a Riverside family you are automatically a member of the Riverside Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO Leadership is responsible for supporting the school and our teachers through hospitality and fellowship events, school supply and spirit wear sales and serving as room parents.
